点评:In this day and age, when the Russia/Ukraine war affects everyone in this country and our allies in Europe, it makes sense to learn something about Ukraine and its history and perhaps how we got to where we are. Located at 2249 West Superior Street, in Chicago's Ukrainian Village, the Ukrainian National Museum is the place to find answers to my questions. Open from 11 to 4 Thursday through Sunday, it allows visitors to experience over 70 years of Ukrainian culture in Chicago with a plethora of Ukrainian artifacts, artwork, antique musical instruments and embroidered folk costumes. There are over 10,000 objects in the folk art collection, including permanent displays of intricately embroidered blouses and shirts, wedding and festive attire, ritual cloths, kylyms, ceramics, metalwork, decorative wood-carved objects from the 19th and 20th centuries, architecture and a glimpse of life in old Ukraine. Even a collection of Ukrainian Easter eggs. The museum has been an anchor in Ukrainian Village since it was founded in 1952, a home to a permanent exhibit that covers hundreds of years of Ukrainian history--with items ranging from Cossack artifacts to an exhibit on Ukrainian veterans of 20th century wars. Also memorabilia chronicling Chicago's Ukrainian community and the Ukrainian Holodomor of 1932-1933, 1933 World's Fair memorabilia, personal manuscripts of civic leaders and an extensive photographic collection. In addition, the museum hosts rotating shows from local and international artists. In a timely fashion, the most recent exhibit focuses on Ukraine's ongoing war with Russia. It includes artwork related to the war, chevron uniform patches from Ukrainian soldiers and other details about the conflict. All three floors are open for self-guided viewing. And the museum staff is available to answer any questions.
