点评:On the last full day of our trip on the Island of Hawaii, we drove to see Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park from our hotel at Waikoloa. To break up the drive we stopped at Rainbow Falls on our way to HVNP to see highly rated waterfall. It is by no means the highest, but with its volume and setting, it may be one of the best looking waterfalls.
The waterfall is a part of the longest and greatest discharge river in the entire state of Hawaii that flows 28 miles from Mauna Kea to the ocean near Hilo, the Wailuku River. We happened to visit on a wet morning with intermittent rain. We had the chance to see many other high and beautiful falls in the state, but they lacked the volume that you see in the shorter but more impressive Rainbow Falls.
The park is just off the way highway across the Island of Hawaii in Hilo. While not large the park does have multiple viewing areas of the falls with parking and a restroom. You can hike up to river above the falls, but the views are not as good as the falls themselves.
For a short visit with an impressive scene of nature, I highly recommend a stop. Our family greatly enjoyed it.
