点评:I booked this dinner in response to marketing emails that started arriving from Voyages when I reserved my accommodation at Desert Gardens Hotel. Voyages claimed that it will “sell out fast”. The cost of the buffet dinner and inclusive drinks was $355 per person. It didn’t sell out, there were 10 empty seats on the night I attended. Overall, the quality of the food was acceptable but it wasn’t as exceptional as the price would suggest. Drinks service was a little stretched with wait staff struggling to keep up with the demands of a large American tour group who also attended. Their needs appeared to prevail over people who booked privately. Whilst it was reasonable that they were seated first so they could remain as a group, the small minority of guests who weren’t in the group should not have been made to wait until last to receive food and drinks.
As an Australian citizen who enjoys immersion in the beauty of nature in remote areas, I was appalled by The Field Of Light. Part of the attraction of visiting remote areas is to escape the light pollution of major urban centres. Littering the desert with light gloves and polluting the night sky with artificial light appeared to be a desperate attempt to provide an acceptable experience on
occasions when nature fails to deliver a clear night. I guess it’s the only way you can hope that the tourists who paid $355 for dinner under the stars will go home satisfied on occasions when the stars are occluded by clouds.
