点评：I am an academic... the university where I got my degrees can be traced back to 1663 (Laval, Quebec), the university where I teach (Newcastle upon Tyne) to 1834, but Padova is among the earliest, most important, and most influential. 1222 - split from Bologna because of the lack of academic freedom.
This is where it started, it was truly international: look at the alumni... obviously Galileo and Copernicus, but also lots of British academics but also political figures... and from all corners of the world at the time.
The students ran the university and hired the professors... What goes around, comes around... We are close to this.
The building is beautiful, historic, a museum, and still in use (I know someone who has an office here). The associated museums, and the botanical garden - the prototype for botanical gardens all over the world.
