Hippocrates Statue的点评
点评：Monday 6th July we spotted this statue which is located in a small park, surrounded by leafy trees, just off the main port road, Akti Kountouriotou
The bronze statue is in tribute to Hippocrates an ancient Greek physician during the period (c 460 – c 370 BC). He is still considered to be the Father of Medicine.
The statue depicts Hippocrates in a seating position while holding a scroll in his right hand. He is surrounded by the figures of two young men and a woman holding a child. It is possible that they are either patients or students listening to Hippocrates's medical advice or teachings.
The statue itself is roughly 1.8 metres (6 feet) high. It stands on octagonal three level stone plinth which raises the overall height to about 3 metres.
There is an inscription on the bench on which the woman is sitting, it reads as follows:-
"I AM A JUDGMENT OF THE LORD IS BENEFICIAL. DOING WITH POWER AND JUDGMENT DO NOT DEFEND AND DO NOT BE A PERSON IN A STATE OF AFFAIRS".
Very nearby located in Platanos Square is the Hippocrates Plane Tree (reviewed separately) under which it is believed that Hippocrates sat to teach his students.
