点评:I came to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore, but while I was here I figured I may as well go to The Badlands. It must be a National Park for a reason. Wow! So glad I did. Can't believe looking at a bunch of rocks was thrilling!
The nice thing about this park is the views can be seen from your car and if you want a closer look there are large parking lots with paved boardwalks. And if you're brave enough you can even explore further out. There are trail markers on the rocks to help you find your way back.
I had planned to do Notch Trail as it was described as a short hike somewhere in my research. It may be short, but the path is labeled as strenuous and hiking boots are a must. I later read it involves climbing a log ladder and 1.5 miles.
One of my favorites hikes was Cliff Shelf. The CCC built an elevated staircase close to the mountain, which makes the 0.5-mile loop very accessible.
Lots to see, learn and purchase at the Visitor Center. There is also a refillable water bottle station but I spit it out and bought a water instead.
