Tips before visiting the Badlands
Badlands National Park的点评
点评：Everyone says how beautiful the park is, and it is, but here are some tips before visiting the park.
Plan on arriving early before the heat of the day. E visited the park in late March and the weather was perfect, party cloudy, low 70s. However, I can see this park getting hit during the summer time.
Bring layers of clothing. It was windy in the morning and quite chilly. Later in the day, around noon, temperature heated up and the wind dissipated. We started the day in sweatshirts and ended up in Tshirts. Also, bring two sets of shoes. You can wear flip flops and gym shoes since most of the views can be seen from boardwalks. This park does allow hiking anywhere you want to go, even off the paths. I would highly recommend wearing hiking boots for the paths and off the paths.
THERE IS NO SHADE. Make sure to bring plenty of water, suntan lotion, sunglasses, and a hat. If you do forget any of these, the visitor center has these items for sale.
Bring binoculars for seeing bison, big horn sheep, prairie dogs and birds. If you have a camera with a zoom lens, make sure to bring it.
On the western side of the park, there is a dirt road where we saw herds of bison and hundreds of prairie dogs. The drive is in open plains, but that will be best area to see the bison and that’s where “prairie dogs town” is located.
Make sure to hike The Notch Trail. It’s only about a mile, but is a great little hike.
