The V/Line service between Ballarat and Melbourne Southern Cross is a last resort for day-trippers. The travel time on Friday 24th July blew out to over 2.5 hours for what takes 1.5 hours in a car. After the train arrived at Bacches Marsh we waited 12 minutes before we even saw the first bus. 10 minutes later another bus arrived and I pity the poor buggers behind us in the long lineup! Another delay at Caroline Springs rail station and finally we we on our way to Southern Cross station. The complete lack of onboard Wi-Fi and seat power outlets makes it difficult to stay productive on a laptop. We caught an Uber back to Ballarat the next day rather than be left standing in the rain waiting for replacement buses at Caroline Springs. Though it cost more it was better than dealing with the misery of V/LINE Ballarat line.
