点评:Whilst this looked to have working parts for a fountain, it was not in working order when I approached. ( There is a sign on it that says the water is not drinkable) Located next to the Slopes and near the Crescent ... chances are you will walk past this. But why is it here? Who is it celebrating? The man they are celebrating was committed to the community and did a bit of everything.
Samuel - if you read the memorial was Treasurer to the Devonshire Hospital and Bath Charity- he was also a board member. He was, for forty-three years, a churchwarden of the parish. He was a native of Buxton - and to quote the memorial, "an active and useful townsman, a good neighbour and a kind friend."
Samuel was born in 1804 and died in 1876. The community rallying to remember him is a special thing. There was a time that the memorial was in storage after a van crashed into it in 1959 BUT it was re-erected in 1994 in its current location.
