Don't cut corners on Nelion/Batian

点评：Living in the foothills of Mt Kenya in Timau, I prepared physically and mentally for about a year. I thus got to know all the African Ascents guides very well and can honestly say they are the most professional and best organised of all the guiding options out there both for Point Lenana and a technical climb up Nelion and/or Batian. I was lucky to go up Nelion with Ciaran Brown who exuded confidence and experience. Unfortunately the assistant guide got HAPE at the top of Nelion so we didn't push on to Batian but the way the matter was dealt with demonstrates how professional African Ascents are. From the bottom of Nelion, the assistant guide was put on oxygen and stretchered to the road head from where he was taken to hospital in Nanyuki. By the time we caught up with him a day later, he had recovered. Contrast the above with the two unguided climbers who went off route up Nelion a few weeks after us - one of whom fell and died of her injuries.
