点评:I’m going to start with the worst part first because after our experience, it’s important that nobody else has to go through what we did.
At the end of the river walk you’ll get to the Dam. It’s a 10 foot wall with metal lining the top, and to the left is a natural slide in the rock made by people going down it over the years. From the top of the dam you can’t see how the ‘slide’ finishes because it bends around a corner and a waterfall covers the bottom. But if you stand at the top of the 10ft dam you can see the water you think you’ll end up going into using the slide.
I sat down at the top of the ‘slide’ and the first thing I noticed was how slippery it was, my water shoes couldn’t stop me going down. So I held onto the metal at the top to see if I could get further down without speed, but before I knew it my feet gave way and I completely slipped down the rock slide.
Half way down the slide , the slide becomes a sheer drop (you wouldn’t see this from the top) and I landed before the water onto more slippery rocks.
This has caused serious injury to my arms and hips, I’m seriously lucky I’ve not broken anything or hit my head.
I found out there used to be a rope attached down the slide, but I honestly don’t know how that would work because it really is slippery!
After I stopped crying a man with a tour group came along and they abseiled down the 10ft drop, avoiding the slide completely.
So please if you’re thinking about going here, TAKE A ROPE with you. Because that way you should avoid injury. We knew the risks of going here, we are both strong swimmers, love walking and felt confident to take on the river walk. But this is genuinely a safety issue. It makes me feel sick knowing kids will go down that slide today and there’s not enough information to warn people about this!
I’ve attached a photo of the dam with this review, 10ft dam to the right, slide and waterfall to the left.
Before all of this, the river walk is beautiful and I’m so happy we went, it’s worth doing if you bring a rope.
