As residents of the hotel for five nights, we were able to use the Spa NUXE every day, which gave us a good opportunity to experience the facilities rather than just visiting for a couple of hours.
The spa itself has a good concept and there are definitely some positives. The indoor facilities are modern and well maintained, the steam room worked well, and the outdoor relaxation area overlooking the sea is beautiful. The faux beach with plenty of loungers, attractive lighting and fantastic sea views has the potential to be a real highlight.
Unfortunately, the overall experience was consistently underwhelming.
The biggest disappointment was that the hammam/sauna was out of service for our entire stay. When we asked, nobody could tell us when it would be repaired. For a spa of this standard, having one of the key facilities unavailable for five days without any clear communication was disappointing.
The layout is also rather confusing. Much of the building feels disconnected, with numerous locked doors and restricted access, making it difficult to understand where you can and can’t go. The overall flow simply doesn’t work very well.
One of the biggest missed opportunities is the complete lack of food and drink service. There is no spa café, no refreshments available around the relaxation areas and no dedicated service from the hotel bar. Water is available, but only in very small cups and it certainly wasn’t chilled despite being described as such.
The outdoor relaxation area especially feels unfinished. There is actually a fully fitted beach bar with menus advertising drinks, snacks and light meals, yet throughout our entire five-night stay it remained locked and unused. Even the hotel concierge couldn’t explain why it was never open. In the middle of August, overlooking the beach, this seems like an enormous missed opportunity.
Similarly, the external access to the beach was frequently locked at different times of the day, making it difficult to move freely between the beach and spa.
We were also told we could use the outdoor pool at the neighbouring Ibis hotel. In reality, we were unable to access it, leaving the spa without a proper outdoor pool of its own. Considering the location and the summer temperatures, this is a significant omission.
Practical facilities could also be improved. There are only two showers within the spa itself, with the remaining showers located back in the shared changing area. We were also caught out by the lunchtime closure, something that wasn’t explained on arrival and wasn’t clearly signposted.
More broadly, many of the hotel’s outdoor spaces suffer from the same issue. The rooftop terrace and sunbathing areas are attractive but offer little in the way of service, shade or refreshments. Very few umbrellas are provided, and there is little incentive to spend time there despite the fantastic setting.
Overall, this is a spa with huge potential in a wonderful location, but the operational side lets it down. During the height of summer, guests should expect functioning wellness facilities, accessible outdoor areas, and somewhere to enjoy a drink or light lunch without having to leave the spa or change out of a robe.
As hotel residents, it was a pleasant extra to have included. However, had we paid separately as day spa guests, we would have left feeling disappointed. The setting deserves five stars, but the service, facilities and attention to detail currently fall well short of the premium experience the hotel appears to be aiming for.
