Very easily accessible small waterfalls
Tsahkal Falls的点评
点评：I visited Tsahkal Falls in July 2017 and again in June 2026. Don't expect a high waterfall here. These are more like rapids. The largest of these falls is a bit over three meters high cascade. The total drop height of Tsahkal Falls is about ten meters along a distance of 100 meters.
If you want to see a high waterfall, you should visit Kitsiputous Falls in Kilpisjärvi (Malla Strict Nature Reserve) or Pihtsuskongas Waterfall (Pihtsusköngäs) in Enontekiö (Käsivarsi Wilderness Reserve). Read separate Tripadvisor reviews about Kitsiputous Falls and Pihtsuskongas Waterfall.
The advantage of Tsahkal Falls is that they are very easily accessible. You can start hiking from the corner of Santa's Hotel Rakka (Urpiasentie Street) or from Kilpisjärven Luontokeskus (a.k.a. Kilpisjärvi Visitor Center, the visitor center is closed at the moment). Both trails are graveled and so they are very easy to walk. They are demanding accessible routes for wheelchairs, too. The distance from Santa's Hotel Rakka to Tsahkal Falls is a bit shorter, only one kilometer. Just follow signs Tsahkaljärvi and orange marks. This is the easiest trail to walk in Kilpisjärvi and this is suitable for small children, too.
You find a Tsahkaljärvi lean-to shelter with a campfire site (firewood is available, take your own matches with you and remember that making a fire is not allowed during a wildfire warning), a rental cottage, a rental Lappish hut and a dry toilet (take your own toilet paper with you) almost next to Tsahkal Falls.
The area of Tsahkal Falls is very beautiful. It is very relaxing to walk here and take some photos. I really love this place!
