点评：Crystal River Archaeological State Park is a 61-acre state park whose primary mission is to preserve the pre-Columbian mound complex officially designated as the Crystal River Site and the associated Roberts Island complex downstream. The park, which was established in 1962, is located at 3400 North Museum Point in Crystal River, Florida, on a low bluff on the north bank of the Crystal River about two miles above its mouth on the Gulf of Mexico, about two miles west and and one mile north of the city of Crystal River. It was the first State Archaeological State in the Florida park system. The mound complex includes a 26-feet-tall stepped platform mound, several smaller flat-topped platform mounds, a circular earthen embankment enclosing three smaller burial mounds and several burial mounds. According to archaeologists, substantive use of the site began by the second century AD and continued until the complex was largely abandoned around 1233 AD. A visitor center and museum near the entrance to the park interprets the site, displays artifacts recovered during excavations and offers an overview of the site's history and of the culture of the people who built and used the ceremonial complex. A paved loop trail runs through the main mound complex. Visitors also come to the park for fishing, picnicking, hiking, bird-watching and nature study. Boat tours of the Crystal River, which offer a view of the mound complex from the water, also are available. The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990.
