Surrounded by the sacred Amrit Sarovar, the stunning Harmandir Sahib showcases unique Sikh architecture with four entrances welcoming people from all faiths and backgrounds. However the most used entrance is the Ghanta Ghar Deori, accessible by Heritage Street and Golden Temple Road. A multi level car parking is there at the start of the Heritage Street, near Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Statue.
The complex is exceptionally clean, well-organised and largely managed by devoted volunteers. Facilities such as free wheelchair service, cloak rooms, shoe deposit counters and lifts make the visit comfortable for all pilgrims. Walking along the marble parikrama around the holy pool is a peaceful experience with important landmarks like Akal Takht, Ramgarhia Bungas and Darshan Deori adding historical and spiritual significance.
One of the highlights is the world-famous free vegetarian langar, served round the clock, where thousands dine together irrespective of caste or status. Visitors can also participate in seva by helping in the kitchen or serving food.
The temple complex remains open 24 hours, though the sanctum closes briefly at night. Rumala is offered by the pilgrims to the Granth Sahib.
