点评:Taking advantage of the local Heritage Day, my mother and i paid a visit to Brindley's Mill in Leek. I've passed by here on a few occasions, but it always seemed to be closed. Now, this mill is very small and I certainly would not recommend travelling any distance to attend, unless you're seriously into industrial history.
Luckily there was a tour on when we visited and our guide, (sorry i didn't get her name), was very informative and answered all question. Also we were lucky to see the main drive wheel in operation which was a bonus. The mill has three levels, the first being the entrance and main drive shaft and gears. The second floor has some of the sifting equipment and grinding wheel, (which doesn't operate). The third floor has a mannequin in display of what would have been a miller operating what seemed to be a packing station. There's a quite a lot of information boards to read and artifacts around the mill. There are some items to buy at the entrance, these are mainly small books and some postcards that have seen better days.
Staff - brilliant and friendly
There is no parking at the mill, but there are a number of car parks around the town within reasonable walking range.
Will I return? Almost certainly not as it just doesn't warrant a return visit now that by curiosity has been satisfied and I live over an hour away.
