Probably better beach options on the Isle

点评：Shanklin Beach is a bit like Shanklin itself: you could do worse, but you could also do better. The beach is about 60-70% sand and the rest shingle. With low relief, it gets both wide and a bit smelly at low tide, not that most small children will mind. The promenade area is undergoing refurbishment, and the parts that are complete are quite nice, but there is a lot to do to get it up to a fully acceptable standard. The shops, entertainment, hotels and restaurants bordering the beach vary from acceptable to run-down or closed. We visited one of the better-rated restaurants on this high street (Amici), and I found it average at best. There are some nicer hotels if you are willing to pay north of £175/night - and that is before the schools are on summer break. Overall, below expectations for two experienced travellers.
