Great River Float Near Island Park/W Yellowstone

点评：We spent an afternoon floating Henry's Fork of the Snake River with equipment rented from Rapid River Rentals. We were a large group - 28 total - and Heather (owner) and her team were really accommodating during the busy July 4th holiday weekend. We were hyped up for Yellowstone, but this float trip was one of the most memorable days of our vacation!
Rapid River rents both rafts and tubes. For our group size, we selected a bunch of rafts, and Rapid River also secured a few tubes to the rafts for the kids to jump around on. Rapid River provides shuttles to the drop-in, then gives instructions to call for pick-up when reaching the pull-out; the trip itself is unguided. The rafts, tubes, and life jackets were all in good condition.
Any slight anxiety we had about being unguided quickly dissipated once we launched on the river. This is not a Class II/III whitewater adventure. But, the river was flowing nicely, and while we paddled a bit, the current was plenty adequate to carry us downriver.
The float took us about 2.5 hours. The adults enjoyed a few drinks along the way, and the teenagers managed to stick their raft on a rock, providing some laughs as they attempted to get unstuck. The surroundings were more scenic than expected, and a highlight was seeing a bald eagle circling overhead.
We were promptly picked up by Rapid River at the pull-out, which is no more than 5 minutes from the Rapid River storefront. Overall a relaxing and scenic afternoon. If you are looking for a pleasant (and inexpensive) outing near West Yellowstone/Island Park, I'd urge you to check out Rapid River.
