Don't Even Think About Taking Your Car Into the Historic Centre

点评：The knowledgable folk on the Oxford Tripadvisor forum advised us not to even think about driving into the centre of Oxford. Instead, they suggested that we use the Park and Ride carparks which were designed as a simple and easy-to-use system to keep cars out of the historic centre. This was excellent advice. It was the best tip we got for visiting Oxford.
There are 5 large, council-run carparks on the outskirts of Oxford. We chose the Pear Tree Park and Ride which was easy to get to. We parked, paid and jumped on the bus into town. Couldn’t be simpler.
You can leave your car for up to 3 days and it’s remarkably cheap - I think we paid £2.50 for a day trip (£4.50 for a 24 hour overnight stay etc). The bus is free when you park and they run frequently. We barely waited before a bus turned up.
I’d recommend taking a photo of your car before you get on the bus, especially if you’re leaving it for a day or two. The carpark is so big that it’s easy to forget where you’ve parked.
We had two hiccups. Signs warned us to pay within 10 minutes of parking but there seemed to be some problem with the machines and there was a big line. By the time, we’d got our luggage out of the car, figured out where to pay, and waited in line, we'd gone over our 10 minutes. However there was never any consequence so we needn't have been concerned.
Unfortunately we also had an unhelpful bus driver who directed us to get off at a stop that left us with a 10 walk back into the town centre, dragging luggage with us. I’m not sure what was going on there. I think we just got unlucky because our return trip went very smoothly and overall, the Park & Ride was a wonderful system. I’d highly recommend it.
