Wait til later in the season! And wear bug spray.
Wind Drift Orchards的点评
点评：We went mid June at the start of the season and there wasn’t much ripe fruit at all. Only a couple rows were open, but most of the peaches were still rock hard. I imagined it would be more like other you-pick orchards and we'd all be eating our fill of juicy, ripe fruit as we picked more to take home, where I’d immediately make 2 peach pies and some peach ice cream for my son’s birthday the next day. Sadly, we couldn’t find much that was ready to eat. I had to skip the ice cream, and even had to buy a couple grocery store peaches that night to finish filling the 2 pies!
Some things that were disappointing:
- It was pricy to get in, and instead of leaving with tree-ripened peaches we left with a lot of hard ones to ripen on the counter. 😞
- If I knew this ahead of time we would have come in July instead, or at least bought the smaller box for today. And I certainly wouldn’t have counted on the visit to make birthday desserts that same evening.
- I wish I knew to wear bug spray. We got eaten up. The website should give a heads up on that.
- Most of the peaches are way out of reach unless you pay more for a long picker stick. Two nice people gave us theirs as they left and we definitely needed them.
Would I tell a friend not to go? Well, no. I’d definitely say to wait til later in the season, ask how many lanes are open, and wear bug spray. I don't know how long is long enough to wait in the season, and I doubt you’ll get a good answer asking the business directly since they think mid-June is a good time to open. I do think they should lower the entry fee when the bulk of what you’ll find is still rock hard. I found it insulting to have to buy grocery store peaches the very same day I drove an hour to an orchard and spent $85 there just to finish filling pie.
