点评:If you are spending time in the Sydney Botanic Gardens and fancy stopping for a coffee or bite to eat, the Calyx is a good place. There are a couple of other cafes but I think the Calyx is the nicest.
We sat outside with coffee and cake in the sun and enjoyed just sitting there for a while.
The best thing about the Calyx is that it houses a spectacular green wall and garden display space which features changing exhibitions.
Currently it’s hosting ‘Alchemy of a Rainforest’, an installation that recreates a subtropical rainforest environment. Although it’s not as spectacularly colourful as other floral displays I’ve seen here, it’s studded with various sculptural pieces by artist, Jane Gillings who works wth recycled materials. A fun element is the larger-than-life satin bowerbird guarding its nest and its precious collection of blue treasures. I believe that it’s running for another month or two, but these Calyx exhibitions are not permanent and it will be replaced by a new one at some point.
Entry to the Botanic Gardens is free but entry to the Calyx exhibition is by donation (gold coin/note only).
The Cafe is located away from the harbour and the well-known Mrs Macquarie’s Chair look-out. The nearest exit/entry is Gate A, near the Morshead Fountain and the NSW State Library.
