Great route for multi-day self drive trips through southern Germany

点评：The Romantic Road is a scenic driving and cycling route between Wurzburg and Fussen in southern Germany, taking in numerous medieval towns, historic places to visit as well as the Bavarian Alps mountains. It is roughly 460 kilometres and includes over 30 different stops which you can visit as brief stops or overnight stays.
Major highlight stops include Wurzburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbuhl, Nordlingen, Augsburg, Fussen & Neuschwansten (Mad Ludwig's Castle). We recently made the drive in this direction over a seven days and six nights making our way between these destinations and included stops at Wertheim, Bad Mergentheim, Weikersheim, Harburg, Landsberg am Lech, Schongau and Steingaden. It was a busy itinerary one that we would have enjoyed having an extra 3-4 days and nights to allow for longer and more leisurely visits to many of these destinations.
Note: The romantischestrasse.de/en/ website was a good resource we used for learning about the various Romantic Road destinations and planning our stops. It is highly recommended to download the map offered there and to pick one up at the Tourist Information Office in Wurzburg or Fussen before starting your journey depending on which direction you are going.
