点评：Title because this place is at a transition moment - it isn't Victorian, and the interiors are much lighter than the somewhat foreboding Queen Anne (ish) exterior might suggest. This is at the beginning of the aesthetic movement, when style began to take precedent over luxury expressed in acres of dark wood - not that it isn't here; but careful siting, light and material selection bring a completely different vibe compared to the Dickensian feel of Miss Havisham often seen in the era. The self tour is perfectly fine as the docent on duty was knowledgeable and full of enough conversation that the guided tour which I also took tended to drag (or at least repeat) a bit at times. These people know their stuff. This place was basically sold intact in 2012 from the family and while the foundation may still be learning (and is tight lipped) things about its recent past, there is a strong feeling of connection. Some architecturally odd updates in here that you don't get to see (too bad) and I still think third floor access would be nice - but sadly yes, I get the access arguments as well as underwriting rules (bah) You can circumvent both - but at a cost.
