Violently Sick Following Dive

点评：Do not get your PADI cert here. Got extremely ill immediately after the first ‘confined space’ dive - they do it in the local bay, which is highly trafficked by boats and heavily polluted with trash. The first confined space dive includes many exercises that will likely result in you swallowing some water and water exposure to your eyes as you practice emergency skills.
I was feeling perfectly fine before the dive, which was from 3-6pm. Within an hour of leaving the water, I began to feel nauseous. I had a banana and a piece of toast for dinner as this was all I could stand to eat. By 1am I was violently ill, with both vomit and diarrhea, which lasted all night and into the next day. I couldn’t be more than a few steps from a bathroom for the rest of my stay in Phi Phi.
When I informed them I was too sick to dive in the morning, they told me it would be an additional $1000 baht to reschedule my next set of dives. They also insinuated that I got sick because of alcohol or food poisoning, even though I didn’t drink the night before and had a very bland ‘meal’ as described above. I went to the doctor and I was so dehydrated that they wanted to administer a IV drip.
The only reason I’m giving them 2 stars is because the instructor was fantastic. He was patient and very kind, with wonderful teaching vibes. I wish I could’ve continued this course, but after my experience I couldn’t wait to get off of this island. Truly one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had while traveling.
Save yourself an expensive trip to the doctor and get your PADI open water cert somewhere that does the initial confined water dive in a clean pool.
