surprise find on our trip.
Amboy Crater的点评
点评：this was one of the more interesting places we visited on our trip to palm springs. We found out about it from the ranger who worked at palm canyon. (thank you). its about an hour drive north of twenty nine springs California, not much to see along the way but is all paved driving.
The parking lot is good size. has a pit toilet and a handicap ramp to an observation point. we were here in January early morning around 8.30. it was around 50 digress when we started so jacket weather. at the start of the trail, there is an information board that explains what you are looking at and information about the hike.
you will want to bring water (at least 2 bottles per person), use the rest area before starting. its the only one here.
The hike itself involves a one mile hike to and around the crater on a un even trail to the start of a few switch backs uphill perhaps 600 feet high. once you get there, you can hike up another 100 feet to the rim. the rim offers good views of the inside and surrounding area. wile we visited , we saw trains coming by several times. from this viewpoint, you can photo the entire freight train.
we spent 3 hours here from start to finish. took us more than an hour to reach the top of the crater. it was cold the day we were there. so we did not have to deal with the heat problems i read from other reviews. we did not see any lizards or colorful flowers. there are no services at the site however there are places nearby like a gas station.
