Military Museum Scotland的点评

Some photos of our latest community day trip, which this time saw us take a party of 22 through to West Lothian to visit the wonderful Scotland Military Museum. And all we can say is ….. WOW WOW WOW!
Based in the village of Wilkieston, we were met at the door by founder, curator, and Army Veteran Ian Inglis, and were blown away by the welcome we received. Ian set up the museum in 2017 with his own collection of memorabilia, and 9 years and 10 awards later, has amassed arguably the biggest military collection and archive in Scotland.
As soon as we entered, we were greeted by his volunteers and the kettle was already on. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgable – it felt like we were meeting old friends. We spent two hours in the museum, which also has a huge outdoor display. New memorabilia is added each week, and return visitors are common as you always miss something.
The museum is a registered charity, and they are currently looking for new premises to showcase all their artefacts as the landlord is selling the ground. Like all charities – ourselves included – it is a juggling act of providing a service and keeping the funds coming in.
We left the museum and then headed to the Black Bull in Mid Calder, where our group ate a hearty lunch, chatted about our visit, and had some freetime to explore the village. The service and food were superb.
This was our 4th trip and attracted the biggest attendance so far. We had volunteers and attendees from all our groups, and it was great to see everyone mingling. New friendships formed….existing friendships strengthened. Our trips are open to everyone and offer a safe and inclusive environment for those who may not feel comfortable attending trips on their own.
Our next trip will be in May to Scottish Parliament with some freetime in Edinburgh, however, we will DEFINITELY be back at the Military Museum again in the near future.

这家博物馆是一家注册慈善机构，目前正在寻找新的馆址来展示所有藏品，因为房东要出售土地。和所有慈善机构一样——包括我们自己——我们面临着如何在提供服务和维持资金来源之间取得平衡的挑战。
离开博物馆后，我们前往位于米德卡尔德的黑牛餐厅，在那里享用了一顿丰盛的午餐，聊了聊此次参观，并有一些自由时间探索村庄。餐厅的服务和食物都非常棒。
这是我们的第四次旅行，也是迄今为止参与人数最多的一次。我们各个小组都有志愿者和参与者，看到大家互相交流，真是太好了。新的友谊由此建立……原有的友谊也更加牢固。我们的旅行面向所有人开放，并为那些可能不习惯独自参加旅行的人提供安全包容的环境。
我们的下一次旅行将于五月前往苏格兰议会，并在爱丁堡留出一些自由时间。不过，我们肯定会在不久的将来再次回到军事博物馆。
