点评:Our family did this hike in August, 2026. We were fortunate to be successful in winning the permit lottery by applying the night before.
My husband & teen daughter are experienced climbers/hikers, but this 54 year old mom hadn’t hiked in a long time & wasn’t sure she could make it all the way to the top.
The weather was nice - a bit cooler in the morning and upper 70s in the afternoon. We were in line for the first bus by 6:30 AM and were in the first group of 25-30 people up the trail. We intentionally kept a very consistent pace on the way up, which is key through the switchbacks. Slow & steady. Lots of people initially passed us, only for us to catch up to them later in the trail when they were out of steam.
I had done a lot of research & read many reviews the night before. I had planned to just stay at the lookout, but once we got there I felt really good & decided to go to the top with my family. There are a couple nerve-wracking spots, but for the most part I felt comfortable using the chain and taking my time to find the best footing. You will often need to keep moving or step to the side to let others pass (going up & coming down). Fortunately, everyone is kind, patient & encouraging.
In total, it took us just over 2 hours going up and about 45 minutes to come down. We spent about 30 minutes at the very top. The views at the landing are incredible. I am glad I trusted my abilities & loved that we had this experience as a family.
