Great diving experience, but an unpolished start

点评：I booked the driver from Durban recommended by the dive shop. The dive time was changed last minute from 7am to 6am, meaning a 4:30am pickup. The driver called my room just after 4am to say he was outside, which felt unnecessary — a text closer to the agreed time would have been more appropriate.
We arrived at the dive centre around 5am and the start felt a bit disorganised. And the early start felt unnecessary seeing as we arrived an hour before start.
Only one staff member was there and he wasn’t aware of my booking. The driver left, and I waited without being shown basics like water or coffee until the main crew arrived. Once they did, things improved quickly — the lead diver knew exactly what was planned and I was diving solo for the day.
The first dive was a shark dive with lots of sharks very close up. It’s intense but calm, and if you want a proper up-close shark experience, this is hard to beat. There are also large groupers that come very close, which some people may find uncomfortable. Non-divers can do a cage experience. The sharks are baited, so keep that in mind and decide how you feel about that.
The second dive was the highlight — a reef dive with incredible marine life everywhere. It genuinely felt like diving in an aquarium.
The boat is an inflatable and can be choppy. You need to hold on, and getting back on board can be challenging, especially for older divers, but the crew were helpful and attentive.
Despite the rough start, this was a fantastic experience and one of the top things to do in Durban. Highly recommended if you’re comfortable with adventurous diving conditions.
