点评:This was the third vav I saw on my trip to Ahmedabad and Kutch. All three Adalaj, Dada Harir and this one were different from each other though stepwells. This vav is surrounded by beautiful gardens maintained by the ASI. It has three entry doorways. It was built in the 11th century but remained buried until it was rediscovered and restored in the 1980s.
This vav was dedicated to Lord Vishnu and has beautiful carvings on every stage of the stepwell which reminded me of the mandapas of a temple. It is like an inverted temple going down. On the fourth stage there is almost a wall of carvings left and right and the depth is amazing. The site to the last stages is blocked but one can see the depth through the columns. The columns are beautifully carved and the steps are going right and left downwards.
It reminded me a little of the Roman baths as it opened up to the sky. Unfortunately the well has been blocked from public view but is supposed to have beautifully carved walls.
