An Unforgettable Father-and-Son Blacksmithing Experience

点评：My son and I had an absolute blast at Wrought Iron Arts. We spent the entire day with Rob learning about blacksmithing while creating our own pieces—my son made a tanto and I made a katana.
What made the experience stand out was how much freedom Rob gave us. Rather than having everyone follow the exact same project, he let us decide what we wanted to make and guided us through the choices of materials and techniques along the way. He was incredibly patient and encouraging, especially with my son, while still letting us make our own decisions and truly feel like the finished pieces were ours.
It was also much more than just hammering hot metal. Throughout the day, Rob explained some of the history and science behind blacksmithing and what was happening to the steel during the different stages. One of my favorite parts was watching an old railroad spike transform into my son's shiny finished tanto. Seeing what we started with compared to what we took home was pretty amazing.
If you're hesitant about doing an all-day blacksmithing class in the Florida heat, don't let that discourage you. The workshop has quite a few fans, and we were surprisingly comfortable throughout the day despite working around a hot forge.
By the end of the day we were definitely tired and a little dirty, but we walked away with a katana, a tanto, a much better understanding of blacksmithing, and a great father-and-son memory.
If you're looking for something different from the usual Florida attractions and want an experience where you actually create something you'll keep, I highly recommend Wrought Iron Arts.
