An Extremely Disappointing and, More Importantly, Unsafe Birthday Party

点评：I am writing this review because parents deserve to know exactly what they may be walking into when booking a children's birthday party at Marando Farms.
We held our daughter's 4th birthday party at Marando Farms on August 23 from 12–3 PM. The only reason we chose this venue in the first place was because my husband won a party package through a charity auction. After this experience, I would absolutely not choose this venue for a children's birthday party on my own. There were problems throughout the entire three-hour party, but what happened with the bounce house was genuinely terrifying, so I find it most important to describe first.
We paid an additional $250 for a bounce house for the duration of the party. During the entire booking process, I was never told that there would be no attendant supervising the bounce house. In fact, there is not one mention of an attendant in any of the correspondence I had with the venue. This was a large, commercial-grade inflatable, and my 4-year-old has been to countless children's parties where an attraction like this is actively supervised, so I assumed this would be no different. At approximately 2 PM, while a group of children were playing inside, the bounce house suddenly began collapsing toward the rear, near the inflation blower and inflation tube. A large gap/crevice opened up between the rear portion and the main inflated area, and children began slipping toward it. Parents, including my own mother and sister, immediately started screaming and rushing to pull children out. Several parents physically reached into the back and hoisted children out of the opening to prevent them from becoming trapped.
And the most unbelievable part? There was not a single Marando Farms employee in sight. No attendant. No employee monitoring the attraction. No one responding to what was happening. Parents had to handle the emergency themselves. This wasn't a minor malfunction. This was a children's inflatable collapsing while young children were inside it, with no venue employee present to intervene. Then, approximately 15 minutes later, when it began pouring rain, three teenage employees finally came by to check on the party. I was understandably extremely upset. I told them what had happened and asked to speak with a manager. Chelsea and Casey came out.
I explained what had just happened and how terrified I was watching children - including my own daughter - in the collapsing inflatable. Instead of asking whether the children were okay or expressing concern about what had occurred, Chelsea looked at me and said, “So what do you want me to do about it?” I was on the verge of tears and told her that, given what had happened, I absolutely refused to pay for the bounce house. Chelsea said that she’d “been doing this for over 20 years, are you saying there’s a hole in the bounce house?” She laughed and responded that I had signed a contract and therefore would be paying for it. Chelsea then claimed that her own daughter had seen adults in the bounce house and suggested that this was the reason it was collapsing. What she apparently failed to understand, or chose to ignore, is that the adults she saw were parents rushing in to pull their children out of the collapsing structure. Plus, if an employee actually witnessed adults entering the bounce house, why weren't they assisting the children? Why wasn't the attraction immediately shut down? Why did no employee come check on the children afterward? These are questions I still cannot understand.
