点评:Inside the tiny visitor's center at the very west end of town, one wall is lined with brochures explaining what activities and points of interest are available to tourists, not just within Tombstone but also throughout Arizona. The room can accommodate about half a dozen visitors at a time, max, but it wasn't crowded when we stopped in.
The hostess was delightful. Very friendly and interesting. I asked her quite a few questions that weren't within the tourist realm, and she gladly answered. One question was where does the water come from to supply all the people in the state, since Arizona averages only 12 inches of rainfall annually. She told us that, prior to the 1887 earthquake that shook northern Mexico and the southwestern US territories, Arizona had surface lakes and rivers, but that they collapsed underground along the fault. Now the water comes from deep wells. Hmmm . . . I'll have to do some research.
The hostess highly recommended that we see the world's largest rose tree, just half a block from the visitor center. It has been growing since 1884 and covers almost 5,000 square feet of space behind the Rose Tree Museum. Being a flower freak, I added the stop to my list.
Hours here are 9:00-4:00 Monday through Thursday, and 9:00-5:00 Friday through Sunday, except holidays. There's an ATM inside the door in case you need to grab some cash.
