点评:Harriet Tubman led a remarkable life, but as there’s not much remaining from it, it’s hard to build a historic site around her. This NHP is a visitor’s center and a smattering of loosely connected buildings sprawled around Dorchester County. The visitor’s center is far from any town in a nature preserve, and seems to have been located here to encourage visitors to tour the nature preserve after seeing the small museum at the visitor’s center.
This museum includes a 20-minute film and exhibits that repeat the information in the film and exhibits that repeat Tubman quotes from other exhibits and the film. I get it: some people watch only the film; some only visit the exhibits. But there’s got to be a way to make it less repetitive.
The information is thorough but there are no Tubman artifacts here. It takes less than an hour to see the film and everything in the museum. They seem to be working on other Tubman-related sites in the area so there is more to see than just a museum, but that’s most of what there is to this NHP now.
