点评：A superb day out in Yorkshire with Tim. I'd interviewed him for my podcast earlier in the year, and he offered to show me around while I was in the area — and what struck me most is something you can't get from a guidebook or a satnav: Tim knows where to pull over and see the best views of Yorkshire. On the way to Castle Howard, he stopped at an unmarked spot I'd never have found alone, where you can see the house, the estate buildings and the whole landscape in one view. That's twenty years of local knowledge, and it made the day.

We covered Castle Howard, Helmsley, the moors with the heather still in bloom, a picnic at Bank Top with an enormous view, Byland Abbey almost to ourselves, and Thirsk for James Herriot. We packed a lot in and it never once felt rushed. Tim is easy company, genuinely knowledgeable, and kind with it — he bought the picnic and wouldn't hear otherwise.

A comfortable car, a well-judged route, and excellent conversation all day. Highly recommended.
