The approach and entry process was the most challenging part. Queue management felt chaotic, with long waiting times and limited transparency about ticketing and ferry movement. Visitors are required to purchase two separate tickets — one for the ferry at the shore and another at the memorial entrance. This fragmented system adds unnecessary confusion and delays. A single, combined ticketing process would greatly improve efficiency and reduce crowd congestion.
Safety protocols also appeared relaxed during busy hours. Life jackets were available but not actively enforced during boarding, which was concerning given the volume of visitors. In earlier visits, safety checks were stricter, so this felt like a step down in peak-season management.
Once inside the memorial, the experience improves noticeably. The atmosphere is calmer, the views of the sea and coastline are excellent, and the visit to the Thiruvalluvar Statue via the glass bridge is memorable and slightly thrilling. The monument itself retains its dignity and purpose.
