点评:I’ll preface my review by saying that the sea turtle conservation center undoubtedly does amazing, invaluable work. While the admission fee of $5 per adult initially doesn’t sound very costly, it’s pricey for the lack of a fulfilling experience, and even pricier for those paying admission for larger families. There is an initial impression that the rehabilitation center has more to offer visitors in terms of an educational program than it actually does. Aside from the few aquatic turtles and tortoises on the exterior of the building, there are 3 live specimens on exhibit indide the building that are truly intriguing and worth observing— a lion fish, a small tank of jelly fish and darling Sweet Pea the rescued sea turtle who is beyond rehabilitation and cannot be returned to the wild. Upon arriving at the rehabilitation center, our group of 20 or so visitors was told that we’d be taken on a tour. The tour consisted of entering the building and gathering around Sweet Pea’s swimming pool, where an employee educated us in a 10 or so minute info session on sea turtles in general and shared with us the life story of Sweet Pea and how she came to be a permanent resident of the conservation center. She is the only sea turtle on site, and if this is known up front prior to visiting the center, then expectations can be more reasonable. That was the extent of the “tour”. The group was then left to explore a room with a handful of other specimens and some exhibits and info posted on the walls. There’s also a gift shop. We expected to learn more about the work done by the conservation center and thought that we’d see more than one sea turtle b/c the web site makes reference to multiple. It would also be wonderful to hear other stories of sea turtle rescue and of efforts made to preserve the overall population.
