点评:We were returning from the Hachinman Shrine visit towards Castle Ruins when we noted the distinguished bldg at the corner of a main street, specifically the brick-walled building. Reckon such beautiful modern western architectural style are likely to be found in Yokohama, Kobe or Toyko we were surprised here.. constructed to reflect the European style of the late 19th century.
A closer look and we saw that The Morioka Takuboku and Kenji Youth Museum is located in this former Dai Kuju Bank which was completed in 1908. This building was once the head office of the No. 90 Bank and the architect was Tsutomu Yokohama, who coincidentally went to the same junior-high school in Morioka as Takuboku and Kenji!
We went in and the classic interior still exudes a nostalgic feel/atmosphere.. the building has been preserved and repurposed to host exhibitions & events. The exhibits were unfortunately all in Japanese, quite a lot of display within the small setup.
There is a Café just beside the entrance and it was all full from what we observed, an interesting concept (to chill after the visit).
From here we moved towards the Morioka castle ruins which is 5+ mins away. We later read that the stunning Meiji-era architecture bldg is designated as an important cultural property. Do drop by if you happen to be around the area.
