A small museum with reasonable admission fees particularly for locals who could take advantage of year long admissions.
Jarrow Hall Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village and Bede Museum的点评
点评:We visited on a day when whilst it was dry there was a threat of rain so we started a visit by exploring the outdoor area. Dirt paths weaved their way between paddocks containing, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and and wildfowl. What was lacking was information panels explaining the breed of the animals, and the history of both the breed and individual animals e.g. when born, how they came to be at the farm. Likewise at the Saxon village there was little in the way of information. At the time of our visit it was only possible to enter one of the Saxon buildings.
By contrast the Bede museum contained a lot of information written on wall panels. I found the alcove near the down in the centre of the museum to be innovative as the visitor can sit in each alcove and listen to audio information. There are a number of display cabinets containing historical artefacts. There was a display of manikin monks engaged in construction at the centre of one of the museum rooms.
Overall our visit was interesting and enjoyable. Small children would particularly enjoy visiting the farm and village area of the museum more than the Bede museum, whilst the whole site would be of interest to older children and adults.
