点评:Linford Lakes has had an odd history - the lakes created by gravel workings have been used as research centre by Game Conservancy and then and environmental education centre. Now managed by the Milton Keynes Parks Trust, the site can be accessed by permit. As well as large lakes, there are areas of wet woodland and meadows. On our visit we were very fortunate to get several good views of a kingfisher, as well as little egret, wigeon, teal, tufted duck and many woodland birds.
The annual permits cost £20-30 per year and you can visit as often as you like. The permit gives users the code which allows access to the bird hides. The site is relatively flat, but most of the paths are not surfaced. It takes about half a day to fully explore. A visit could be combined with other green spaces nearby, such has the wonderfully refurbished Great Linford Manor Park and canal.
Note there are no facilities - including toilets at the reserve. There is a Costa coffee in the shopping area in Great Linford. Even closer the Black Lion pub is opposite the access road to the the reserve and makes a great lunch spot.
