点评:I had seen this monument mentioned on a TV programme about UK coastal villages and when we realised we were going to visit Eyemouth, we just had to come and look for ourselves.
Ninety percent of the monument is the plinth that the smaller figures stand upon, but, my how good are these figures, they have gained a verdigris or patina over time due to the weather, especially as it sits full face into the wind coming off the North Sea. Personally I think this enhances the figurines, all of which have differing facial expressions of longing, hope, despair and sorrow as they look for loved ones to return from sea after an horrendous storm, which actually happened to the fishermen and their families of Eyemouth in 1881. Read the information board for the whole story.
Well worth going out of your way to visit this monument.
