点评:This has to be a must visit place on any trip to LA. The observatory is located at the top of a hill but is accessible via public transportation which is a big plus. The observatory gives such a detailed, highly informative, and immersive experience of the astronomy. The staff are the nicest people around, both the scientists and astronomers on site as well as the support staff The observatory has various experiences with highly informative videos, demos, and self trying equipment to understand and learn about the earth, sun, moon, stars, galaxies, and other planets. The telescopes have free viewing each night for public and depending on the weather and time of the year you can view Moon, Sun. Saturn, Mars etc via various telescopes during different times of the day (star and moon viewing after sunset only). There are multiple displays where you can feel asteroids from other planets and stars including Moon and Mars. There is also informative displays on different phenomenon facing the earth including time, weather, moon and sun relation to the earth, behavior of seas etc. there is another section on the elements constituting the earth with an interactive large display of the periodic table. There is a cafe and gift shop in the basement. Parking is difficult to find during weekends and evening. The free parking is at the base of the hill at the Greek Theatre, from there you can either do a half mile hike on footpath in around 12 minutes, or take the bus that costs 59 cents each way. The parking in the top floor is often full and is very costly at $20 per hour. Even the $10 parking lot that is half way towards the observatory also is not worth the walk from there. You can also park on the road at $15 an hour closer to the observatory given there is a spot available. The parking rates also vary during the time of day and is also free on certain days for a few hours in the morning. You would need at least three full hours to fully explore the observatory. There are clean restrooms available on the main floor of observatory near the ticket office inside the building for both men and women. Highly recommend a visit here.
