点评:We visited this great Thiruparankudram Lord Muruga temple recently (20th April).
The temple complex is huge and astonishingly with full of magnificent sculptures.
We were blessed with a great and peaceful darshan of Lord Muruga & goddess devasena.
Thiruparankundram is the first and most sacred temple in the six abodes (Aru-padaiveedu), of Lord Muruga.
It is located near Madurai at around 10 KM from Madurai Meenakshi temple.
It is the divine place where Lord Muruga married goddess Devasena.
This rock-cut architectural temple is dating back to the 6th century.
As per history the Pandyas built this temple by carving into a massive rock and with a number of intricate pillars and mandapams.
Though the main deities are Lord Muruga & Devasena there are also shrines of Lod Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Lord Vinayaka, and Goddess Durga within the same rock-cut complex.
Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are facing each other in this temple which is a unique feature.
In addition, the temple has also a beautiful statue of Nandi (the vehicle of Lord Shiva), a Peacock (the vehicle of Lord Subramanya) and a Mouse (the vehicle of Lord Vinayaka).
Carvings of Mahishasura Mardini, Karpaga Vinayagar etc can also be seen here on the rocks.
Further artistically made mandapams add to the attraction of this temple.
Major celebrations of this temple include Kanda Shasti, Panguni Uthiram, Karthika deepam and Thai Poosam
Darshan of the deities here make you feel the positive vibes apart from a sense of fulfilling.
It is a must visit temple.
