An Excellent Museum featuring Fearsome Fossils from The Etches Collection

点评：Our visit to the The Etches Collection Museum of Jurassic Marine Life in Kimmeridge (near Wareham) was one of those trips where you pop in expecting “a few fossils”… and leave convinced the sea used to be run by enormous toothy nightmares.
First things first: our guide Ben deserves a medal, or at least a fossil named after him. Within minutes he had us completely hooked with stories about the mighty Pliosaur — basically the Jurassic equivalent of a bus with teeth. He explained how these creatures were excavated from the nearby cliffs, which made us feel slightly nervous about standing too close to them - just in case one decided to finish what it started 150 million years ago.
The museum itself is absolutely brilliant. Every display case seems to contain another sea monster that sounds like it was named by someone losing a game of Scrabble. My personal favourite: the magnificently impossible 'Torvoneustes coryphaeus'. Not only does it look fearsome, but saying its name out loud makes you feel like a wizard casting a spell.
