点评：An old mining town worth visiting! There are no admission fees but plenty of shopping. We spent about 3-4 hours here, despite the extreme heat. It was “off season” so we did not have to contend with crowding. We were able to leisurely walk the property, viewing all the relics and buildings. They offer several activities although we enjoyed just viewing things on our own. We arrived before shops opened which gave us time to explore and photograph then go back and shop. We visited the art gallery which features very talented local artists and enjoyed visiting with the owner who is also one of the artists. She also owns the Apothecary which offers SO MANY natural products, all crafted by the owner who is very knowledgeable in plants and oils and their medicinal properties. The owner and her assistant were very friendly and helpful. We also visited The Mercantile which had a great variety of items and Mother Fudger—the best store fudge we’ve ever had AND so many flavors! Yes, you can sample before you buy—you will want to take some home (or have it shipped for a small fee) because it is that delicious! We ate at the Saloon and enjoyed a visit with the bartender who shared a brief amount of facts with us. The food was good and reasonably priced. The Ice Cream Shop is a definite treat, especially with the extreme heat of August, and they do not skimp on their scoop size! The girl who waited in us was very pleasant, as were all the staff we encountered. The Train Depot had a few artifacts and a model train set up worth the stop, as well as a 15 minute train ride around the property with the conductor sharing some history about the town and area. The towns tourist season begins in October and Mother Fudger will have at least 27 varieties of their fudge! Definitely worth a visit or two—we know we will visit again when in the area.
