点评：We traveled in Wales with dear friends who had hired John to tour them around. My husband and I wanted to be good sports and accompany our friends. Tours are not our preferred mode of travel.
I was never so happy to be a good sport! John gave us a tour to remember. From an isolated and beautiful Cistercian monastery, to a storied local rugby field, to an ancient Roman fort, John showed us parts of Wales we would never have seen otherwise, as well as touring us around to better known, not-to-be-missed sights. A native of the area he was knowledgeable and clearly loved his homeland, as did we by the conclusion of the tour.
And as for the mundane aspects of a tour, his van was clean and comfortable, he was on time and reliable, he was a good driver, and food, drink, and bathroom breaks were plentiful.
In the afternoon Keith joined us. Keith is an absolute font of genealogical knowledge about the area. He’d spent a lot of time researching our friend’s Quaker roots and we visited sites, as well as lived- in residences, that figured in her family history. He and John had done a dry run a few days before so current residents knew to expect us and were very welcoming. He was so enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed his genealogical discoveries. As did we! Keith also did a great job of pacing his part of the tour and kept some of the biggest surprises for last.
It was a really fun day and we are so grateful to John and Keith for showing us Wales through their fascinating local lenses.

下午，基思也加入了我们。基思简直就是该地区家谱知识的宝库啊。他花了大量时间研究我们朋友的贵格会背景，我们一起参观了与她家族历史相关的各个地点以及他们曾经居住过的房子。几天前，他和约翰先进行了一次预演，因此现在的住户们早就知道我们会来，也热情地欢迎我们。他兴致极高，显然乐在其中，享受着这次寻根之旅带来的种种发现——我们也是如此！此外，基思还很好地把控了导览的节奏，把最令人惊喜的环节留到了最后。今天真是愉快的一天！我们非常感激约翰和基思通过他们独特的本地视角带我们领略了威尔士的风采。
