点评：Virginia City, back in the late 50's my father, mother and I would take driving trips up to northern California and Nevada, on one occasion we stopped in Virginia City, Nevada a beautiful mountainous old hillside gold town nestled among hundreds of little and larger gold mines. I distinctly remember walking, father in hand into the "Bucket of Blood Saloon" perhaps remembering after all these years due to its name. I was amazed by its size and noticed a wooden spiral staircase at the end of the bar. So, we sauntered up to the bar, my first experience for an eleven-year-old.
Father had a beer, and I a soda of some sort called a sarsaparilla. As we sat there an old-timer wearing odd looking and a bit tattered clothing sat down next to my dad, and they struck up a conversation. After a while my dad asked him if he had a gold mine and he said, “why yes, he did”. My father then asked him does he get a lot of gold out of it and the old-timer said, “Yes, but I only take out enough to live on” a lesson learned, that I have never forgotten, the true definition of a gold mine.
67 years later I walked into the same saloon, sat in the same spot only now with my drinking buddy! The super friendly bartender and staff were very accommodating with a new addition of live music watched by the many onlookers adding to the mystique of this famous Saloon among others in Virginia City. Although the old spiral staircase was no longer there, a big picture window was strategically placed offering a panoramic view of the town and hills beyond. A special place not to be missed on anyone’s visit to Virginia City, Nevada, USA. Special Thanks for the memories to my father and the Old-Timer.
