A sad day at the beach
Silver Strand State Beach的点评
点评：SILVER STRAND STATE BEACH, this was and still is one of my favorite beaches in all of San Diego. As a child ( 1960's) my family spent summer weekends
picknicing and playing at the beach. My father and uncles would surf fish with long spinning reel poles catching fish, which would be cleaned and cooked over open pit campfire served to the entire group. Jumping forward to today, 2024, the beach still looks inviting with its vast stretch of sand, the waves crashing on the shore. But looks are deceiving. I spent to night's camping at the silver strand state park, the park has restrictions allowing self contained unites only, NO tents
Electric and water only at all of its 100 plus sites, no sewer hookups. Each numbered site is a blacktop parking site very much like a jumbo parking lot. I was researching the park for a future trip, possibly this upcoming summer. I'm glad I went solo,it allowed me to find out that the park itself no longer holds the childhood memories and conditions it once had. The first thing you'll notice it the large posted signs warning visitors to stay clear of the ocean and bay waters. For the past 10, no 15 years, the Pacific ocean waters of the Imperbeach,silver strand, and Coronado beaches are being polluted with sewage from the Teajuana River runoff. Mexico has been dumping its untreated sewage into the Pacific, contaminating the stretch on the beach as far north as Coronado beach. This has ruined a once beautiful area. All I can say is it's a mess, sad, very sad, just a walk on the shore bearfoot could cause a health risk. Stear clear
