点评:The train ride experience is 5* - I'm rating this a 3 because... 1) Reserved the 2:45 pm STEAM (not the diesel) train on a Saturday in July. Weather was perfect, clear - except for some haze from the wild fires, warm and no humidity! TMWCR (The Mount Washington Cog Railway) stresses to be on time. That being said, our train left 5 minutes late, at 2:50 pm. The ride up is fabulous, scenery incredible, the train conductive informative and funny, maybe a little snarky... :) This was the problem: we left the station at 2:50 but didn't arrive to the summit until 4:20! We had to wait for the diesel trains to pass up mid-way up. Then we were told we had to get back on the train at 4:40! Definitely not enough time at the summit. Our trip was shortened by 30 minutes at least, did not have time to go to the top of the Observatory, barely time to take a few pics at the summit. Very disappointing, and stressful to get back to the train in such a short time. I've been planning to visit the Obsv for years. While at the Summit I asked the conductor if we could take a diesel train back (which was leaving after the steam train) and he grunted no, and "go buy a ticket" for the diesel. The AI information when I called reservations and specifically asked this question relayed one did not have to take the same train back that they went up on. Now on this Saturday there were hundreds of hikers. Perhaps it was just too crowded, IDK, either way we paid the full price for the ticket but really didn't get to enjoy the full experience of the summit portion. We should have been told the time at the summit would be short when the tickets were purchased. Also, I wish the website had information about what else there is to do in the area, lodging, and food. Albeit I researched some of this, we ended up staying on the other side of the mountain near the self-drive summit road which is about 45 minutes from the cog railway entrance! Folks, there's no doubt about it, the train is a very very cool experience and I would do it again, but not in the afternoon.
