点评:This is a bucket list place you must visit. It is one of the most beautiful islands I have ever been to. First being a Japanese Isle, it is immaculate in cleanliness. You have to take a short ferry ride from the mainland to get here. On the ride you get a lovely view of the mountain range known as "Sleeping Goddess". The entire island was worshipped as a deity for hundreds of years. The walk to the stunning 50-foot O-torii gate is a beautiful path along the beach where you encounter wild deer that are harmless unless you try to feed them (then you have a pet for the rest of the trip). The Itsukushima Shrine located just feet from the beach is a UNESCO World Heritage site and for good reason. It was built on stilts so worshippers would not trample directly on the deity island. There are a wealth of eateries, shops, and places to stay near the shore. Amazing.
