点评:Prior to arriving at the class, we were escorted through a huge market full of shops selling fish, meats, produce, clothing, souvenirs and everything else imaginable. Big plus - the food stores had more samples than Costco. It was a wonderful experience and far less crowded than those in Tokyo.
The class itself is given in a beautiful 100-plus year old space that was formerly the shop and home of a merchant. It is run by the Women Association of Kyoto, an organization that promotes traditional Japanese arts by offering classes in cooking, tea ceremonies, calligraphy, origami and flower arranging - and they now even have some male members!
Our host was Mieko, who was lovely - warm, friendly, very good at her job, and excellent English. We learned how to make sushi, miso soup and a spinach sesame seed salad. The food was delicious, the process was fun for all of us, and we were given a recipe book to take home.
My only regret is that I didn’t know about WAC sooner, as I would have taken advantage of their other classes as well. Unfortunately, we are at the end of our stay in Kyoto. Our experience with Mieko far exceeded our expectations and we all left her full and happy!
